Sweet - Sour Abstraction
This is the first portion of the exploration. Second portion I would like to discuss later.
I picked the first word as 'sweet'.
Sweet_Dreams
Sweet, with the sound of the word, melody is felt and next thing that happens is I start travelling to the sweet memories with a packet of dairy milk in hand to a land of dreams.
In the first image as you can see, I listed down the associations with the word ‘sweet’, the keywords and painted the first thumbnail. As circle has no edges, its smooth, hence i chose circle with square so that the whole composition is subtle and balanced.
Trying out more thumbnails, i was trying to settle with the composition that lets me say, "this looks so mishti", accordingly i was trying out the colour palette also, with pinks, reds, violets and little pinch of yellow depicting the happiness it brings when we think of sweet.
Looking upon the composition, I should enable the viewer to feel melodious, help him/her feel as if it is beautiful dream full of happiness and chocolates!
With the colour palette in place, I wanted to take the best parts from my all thumbnails and make the composition of sweet.
Here is the final composition,
In the first part we created with all our little knowledge of design, now that we have created, we were suppose to identify different principles of design and gestalt principles of perception through a frame of 8cm X 8 cm.
This was a complete circle in the process of learning the fundamentals.
Then the second word I chose is 'sour'.
What can be the shape of Sour?
What do I associate sour with?
What does sourness in a food do?
I started to answer the last question first.
It brings tanginess to the food, its tastier for me.
It refreshes and energises.
Its healthy.
Sour Relationships…
Shaky…
Triangle might suit….
And I came across an article that says sour is associated with high pitch sounds.
Here is the link.
The sound that we make when we eat anything sour, it feels like something is sparkling inside, then it becomes slow and for most, it shakes the body.Hence, I decided to use triangles and rhombus for sour.
With these thumbnails at back, I thought of creating it on final paper with the idea of rhombus moving in a zig zag implied line with triangles getting attached.
The colour palette has been decided to be tints and shades of green, with yellow and little bit of yellowish orange from the keywords like freshness, energy, healthy, tangy and joyful.
