H O P E
WOW!
That sounds exciting!
But, its diwali time, and the cleaning work has ju......st been finished which I was not part of having stayed at home, parents won't allow. Period.
This was the thought going around my head when Kuntal Da was giving us the project brief, the theme is about "Transition". And there has to be an abstraction which is my forte, just drawing the exact things makes me feel bored, by now you might have understood.
Before forming group, the first idea that came in my mind was about a transition from an attitude of rigidity to fluidity as we gain experience of life and gather knowledge. I sketched it in transforming from a cube to a line.
I shared that part with the group when it was formed. Group led by Surya, with whom me, Shreeya joined from NMD, Pujashri, Ranjana and Sagar from Apparel Design, Anushka from Toy and Game Design, Krishna from Lifestyle accessory Design and Dilshita from SDM.
Then we were collectively brainstorming about all kind of transitions in our first meet.
And we found once again in the course of history that, " Change is the only constant."
Eureka moment, isn't it?
And i was waving my hands on our free zoom calls, to which Surya gets an idea!!!!!!!
Unbelievable!
This cannot be more funnier that a person thinks of a ship stuck in a dark storm from a girl's hands' movement in a wavy motion. Could have been positive, no?
Probably its because he was exploring the term fear in his head for his other assignment.
Here 'Surya' shows us the 'light'.
What else is he on earth for, right?
I take the light and I think of having stuck inside and outside and we all clicked!!!
Click Click Click!!!
Two stories, bound by this fantastic theme of Change is the only Constant.
What makes a person change/ transform/ transit?
H O P E???
HOPE !!!! Yes!!
Ummeed pe hi toh duniya kaayum h!!
We got derailed many a times, thinking of what will be our mode of presentation, etc but we list out our keywords, then colours associated and shapes and we explore more till we are in deep sleep.
An important step done in streamlining.
Now, in the next class, Chaula and Shubhra had already planned a fun thing to open up our minds and to learn the art of storytelling..... Wohoooooo!!!
Here comes Shilpa with two lines,
First, a cow with her wings, flies to the clouds.....which we made to a Karan Johar, typical bollywood plot, putting in one - one lines to make a story.
second, when i step into the mirror in the morning was just awesome!!!
In intervals, she was telling us about parts of story, the beginning, the event that took place, details of the event, description about the character, element of surprise, climax and ending.
This process boosted us to another level.
WE WERE ENERGISED TO CREATE THE DRAMA, which was the major lacking point in my previous colour video assignment.
Chaula is the Godmother, I felt. Instead of Kuntal saying that faculties won't help, she is always there with us, not holding hands tightly, but watching us from behind, sometimes giving a little hint and then encouraging us to be bold and let ourselves fly but keeping an eye from the ground.
Going through our wild imaginations, keeping her calm, she mentored to the the point we are crystal clear as much as possible. She is just amazing.
Blessed to have a mentor like her.
With all her support, words of encouragement, we proceed and refine our staging, storyboarding and divide our works.
As we were making frames for our last exploration of different principles of design, we were playing with the frames on our zoom call, and we thought why not consider this frame as a space!!!
In the stage 1, me and Dikshita worked with each other for doing this bit.
We initially discussed that our frame colour should be similar which is white but while I was setting up the stage, I realised if we use white frame, background needs to be dark and with black background, moving of fingers and hands won’t come out well.
Hence, I ruled out the idea of painting it white.
This is the stage set up for performing the scene Chaos inside the mind.
Frame: Black in colour
Background is kept white so that shadow comes out well and the painted fingers are also seen clearly.
Colour Palette: Dark grey, Blackish Blue
Red light has been used so that the dull colours look more dull to signify the tension and turmoil inside, uncomfortable environment.
The shadows created a dramatic effect that I thought should be there before the hands actually come in.
Frame in both our clips is the space that we created, element is the hand and shadows
Design principle used for above:
(Point of interest, Balance of frames, movement of hands)
Inspiration music for performing the bit is from the ‘Dark’ webseries on Netflix.
Here is the raw video that I shared with Surya to edit:
I recorded the opening music that i played with wind chime.

I recorded one transition.
There were many failed attempts for various transitions we were designing with some music made with an inspiration from jaltarang, because of time constraint we could not refine on those things further.
We were all up with Surya editing and we encouraging him and suggesting on zoom call, though I suddenly went on sleep at 4:30 in the morning. Shreeya and Pujashri were up with him...
We all almost directed and acted the movie together, Surya being the editor predominantly with other roles.
Here is the movie link
After the movie was made, I jot down the points mentioned in the following image that were there at the back of all our mind in one place.
There is a lot more to learn but we really enjoyed the process that made us grow in just three days time. There are many small scenes that could have been betterin terms of colour palette and the rhythm of the overall video.
A lot to come!!!!
