Narrating an eating experience through abstract visuals!!!

Have you ever thought of relating taste and feeling of having your favourite dish to colour(s) or music/sound?
Most of us don't even realize that we taste our food by seeing it first, smelling it and then at the end, we finally let our taste buds judge!

So, in our first task in composition module, we were supposed to paint our feelings about having our favourite dish thinking about the music or sound we can associate with that feeling.

My favourite dish is Chaanar Boraar Jhol: My love!

(Bengali Homemade Cottage Cheese Curry without onion and garlic)

I am excited about having chaanar borar jhol with rice the moment I can smell the curdling of milk or with just hearing that the milk is accidentally spoilt!!!

Yummmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

Never thought of painting an eating experience, but when i got the chance now, i grab the opportunity to create a mini accordion book, putting the love story I have with paneer, especially homemade cottage cheese, which i steal and eat at  every stage of cooking!!
I need to narrate my love story!

Just one night before practicing thumbnails I was wondering how can colour define a taste or sound!

But as I sketched out the recipe, I could identify a few words that is best associated with my favourite food. It was indeed a struggle initially to think of a painting or music, but as soon as i got deep into the topic, I was amazed to read articles that relate taste and music. I noted the few mind blowing facts attached below...

And then, I requested maa to cook the dish, so that I can observe and notice the emotions behind cooking the dish to create an abstraction of the food.

Then, I was trying out the colour palette.

This portion shows the excitement and soothing feel while seeing and smelling the curdling of milk, the fresh and soft texture of the paneer and the tangy smell is represented by the green tint with yellow showcasing the joy in tasting it fresh.

As we cook, the energy trnsformed is shown through resddish brown with the sound of frying and again tasting it, now the outer surface is crispy, crunchy and inside is soft as if the paneer dances with the first bite.

Now that the curry is made and i see my favourite food almost ready and i feel the hunger going up the scale in my tummy!

The portion shown above is when i bite the crunchy yet soft, juicy(full of moisture) and creamy soft paneer ball, my tastebuds, me and my tummy are satisfied and I am thoroughly enjoying every bite and save a few ones for the last so that I carry in the taste even after the food is finished.

I feel so light , yet sinking in the joy of the dish, nostalgia of having the meal during lunch after school and the last feeling is when to have it next and begging for one more chaanar bora (paneer ball) from my younger brother!

And this is the spread out of the accordion book I made in an A2 cartridge sheet.

Checkout the video to listen to the music i relate to while having my favourite dish.
